The cost of a plan to resurface the Fort Dodge Community School District's tennis courts has increased by $14,975 after approval from the Board of Education at Monday night's regular meeting.
The resurfacing plan initially only covered the tennis courts near Dodger Stadium, but will now include resurfacing and repainting the nearby basketball courts as well.
"This originally wasn't part of the project because we thought at the time we could do it possibly cheaper by ourselves … once we actually got numbers back, it was unreasonable to do that," FDCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesse Ulrich said. "So we feel that $15,000 is a reasonable number to make it all part of the same project and complete that entire complex."
The total cost of the resurfacing project is now $72,323.
The school board also approved a request from Ryan Utley, the district's director of buildings and grounds, for the purchase and installation of a new refrigeration remote condenser unit at the Fort Dodge Middle School. The condenser will support the school's cafeteria chiller units.
The approved request for the condenser unit is $19,662.
A request for approval for $18,355.12 to replace the west unit compressors of the HVAC unit at Feelhaver Elementary School was also approved by the board on Monday night.
"Last Monday, the (air conditioner) went out at Feelhaver, so it was an emergency situation and we had to get the parts ordered," Utley told the school board.
The parts arrived Monday afternoon and they hope to have the HVAC unit up and running by Wednesday, Utley said.
