FD man killed in motorcycle, SUV crash

Iowa State Patrol: Accident remains under investigation

A crash between a motorcycle and an SUV ended in one fatality Saturday morning.

A 2002 Honda motorcycle driven by Sean Mannel, of Fort Dodge, was driving south at 9:41 a.m. on South 19th Street when it collided with a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kevin Thielen, also of Fort Dodge, who was driving east on Seventh Avenue South.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, both vehicles entered the uncontrolled intersection at the same time and Mannel’s motorcycle struck the left side of Thielen’s Jeep.

Mannel, 51, was transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, where he later died from his injuries.

Thielen, 54, was treated by emergency personnel at the scene. Thielen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

No citations were issued.

The accident remains under investigation.
