Work on Dodger tennis courts to begin soon

The Dodger Tennis Courts will have a new look and feel by October.

On Monday, the Fort Dodge Community School District board awarded a contract for the Dodger Tennis Courts resurfacing project.

Tennis Courts Unlimited, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, received the contract. That firm submitted a bid of $57,348, which came in below the engineer’s estimate of $71,253.

The Fort Dodge district and Iowa Central Community College will split the cost for the resurfacing project, Dr. Jesse Ulrich, FDCSD superintendent, reported.

Two other bids were received.

Pro Track and Tennis, of Bloomington, Nebraska, submitted a bid of $71,700.

Midwest Tennis and Track, of Denison, submitted a bid of $75,450.

The project to resurface the courts, located at the corner of 10th Avenue North and North 19th Street, will begin Aug. 19.

The project includes removing existing acrylic surfacing, bituminous patching, and tennis court color system.

In all, 10 courts will be resurfaced. Each court is 36 feet by 78 feet.

The outer area of the courts will be painted green. The courts themselves will be painted blue.

The courts were last resurfaced in 2009.

The project is anticipated for completion by the end of September.
