‘We are trying to run down some leads’

Authorities are searching for man who crashed truck from Iowa County

The Webster County Sheriff’s Department is following up on leads as authorities continue to search for the man who crashed a stolen truck from Iowa County at 170th Street and Samson Avenue this past Saturday.

“We are trying to run down some leads,” Webster County Sheriff Jim Stubbs said Tuesday. “We have a few different leads, but we don’t have anything for sure yet.”

The man crashed a 2007 blue Chevrolet Silverado into another vehicle before dashing into a corn field Saturday afternoon.

The truck, with Iowa County license plates, is believed to have been stolen.

The man who ran from the accident was picked up by security cameras at the National Gypsum Co. quarry on Samson Avenue.

The suspect appears to be a white, middle-aged man with an approximate height of 6 feet and a somewhat heavy build. He may be missing a shoe.

He was last seen wearing a white plaid button-up shirt and dark colored pants, possibly jeans.

Police have searched for the man in the area of Samson Avenue and 170th Street.

The suspect is believed to be the same person who tripped the quarry’s alarm system which prompted surveillance footage.

Authorities believe he entered a motorhome in the area looking for keys to a nearby shed. The home’s owners called authorities after the incident.

Stubbs said anyone with additional leads or information is asked to call 911, even if their situation is not an emergency. They can also call the Sheriff’s Department 515-573-1410 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 800-542-9702.
