New reporter joins The Messenger

Elijah Decious

Hi there, Fort Dodge. I’m your newest reporter at The Messenger. I’m looking forward to getting to know you by finding the stories you care about.

I come to The Messenger from the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune, where I got my start in the field as a general assignment reporter over the last year, covering literally everything but sports in a small paper with a news staff of three. There, I was privileged to have the honor of narrating a variety of stories — some of them award-winners with the Iowa Newspaper Association — highlighting folks in the small, diverse town and the even smaller towns surrounding Storm Lake.

With a bigger newsroom at a substantially larger newspaper, I’m excited to do the same by continuing to hone my craft in Fort Dodge, mining for the hidden gems that make Webster County and the surrounding area great. I will be covering county government, county infrastructure, health care and human services issues, feature stories, and other topics as they arise.

I hope to be another member of The Messenger team to earn your trust as we continue to deliver the news you need.

I’m a Cyclone at heart, as a 2016 graduate of Iowa State University, but promise to remain neutral and impartial when covering news on our fellow Hawkeyes. My partner, Alex, a native of Storm Lake, will begin working in Fort Dodge shortly as a registered nurse. Our stay-at-home orange tabby cat, Darius, is looking forward to watching the life of Fort Dodge from the brick window sill of our apartment.

If you have any story ideas, I’d be happy to hear about them. You can reach me via email at edecious@messengernews.net or call me at 515-573-2141, Ext. 520.
