FD City Council approves changes in zoning definitions

Fort Dodge City Council on Monday approved the third and final reading for some changes to zoning rules.

The proposed new rules contain precise definitions of front yard, secondary front yard, side yards and back yard.

Essentially, the front yard is defined as the one that is the closest to the street. For a house on a corner of two streets, that may mean that the front yard might be on what would usually be considered a side of the house rather than the yard facing the front door. That definition would be important for implementing things like fencing regulations.

In other business Monday, the council:

∫ Approved a contract for professional services with SEH in the amount of $18,000 for Oakland Cemetery improvements and acceptance of Catherine Vincent Deardorf Grant.

∫ Approved the sale of property at 14th Avenue South and 29th Street in the amount of $4,000 to Andrew Kennebeck.

∫ Approved change order No. 1 in the amount of $2,000, change order No. 2 in the amount of $720, and final payment in the amount of $4,571.11 and certificate of completion from Upper Midwest Athletic Construction for the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex safety netting project on Diamond 1.

∫ Appointed Teri Townsend to the Fort Dodge Human Rights Commission.
