EMMETSBURG — A man was killed when his pickup truck rolled over at a rural Palo Alto County intersection early Wednesday morning.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Jason Wickman, 44, of West Bend.

The crash occurred at a Y-shaped intersection in the 4700 block of 525th Avenue, deputies reported. That location is east of Emmetsburg and north of Cylinder.

The crash was reported at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday. However, sheriff’s deputies determined that it actually happened sometime between midnight and 1 a.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, Wickman was northbound on 525th Avenue in a 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck. He failed to safely negotiate the Y-shaped intersection and his truck went into the ditch on the west side of the road. The truck then rolled two times, deputies reported.

Wickman was ejected from the pickup. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
