The United States Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the city of Fort Dodge a $500,000 grant to pay for removing asbestos from the vacant Wahkonsa Annex downtown.

The Wahkonsa Annex is the light-colored building next to the Warden Plaza at 908 First Ave. S. It will eventually be demolished as part of the renovation of the Warden Plaza and the future construction of an intermodal hub and a cultural and wellness center nearby.
