Dayton Enduro event returning to Webster County

An annual dirt bike event will be returning to Webster County later this summer, bringing riders from across the state to the southern part of the county for competitions and riding.

And they’ll be able to use some of the roads in Webster County after the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a request from the Central Iowa Enduro Riders and Iowa Enduro Riders Association to temporarily close about six miles of county roads in Yell Township for the event.

The roads will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12 for Dayton Enduro.

The approval is also dependent upon the two requesting organizations being responsible for coordinating and monitoring traffic control.

Supervisor Keith Dencklau told the other supervisors that the enduro riders return to Webster County every year.

“It’s a pretty good event,” he said.

The supervisors also approved the first reading, as well as waived the second reading, of a zoning change for property located along 394th Street.

Chad Bahr, planning and zoning administrator, explained that the property, which had been classified as A-1, will now be classified as A-2, as that is a more appropriate classification.

Bahr explained that A-1 properties, also known as agricultural preservation districts, are meant to keep all existing farmland together and undivided. It has a 40-acre minimum for land use and will only allow for two non-farm homes.

However, Bahr said the property in question should actually be more appropriately classified as A-2, which is known as a transitional agricultural district.

“The idea there is that a person can put a non-farm home in, but they only need two acres in order to do that,” he said.

Much of the property in 394th Street is actually timber, not farmland, and it doesn’t have the crop suitability rating of 65 or greater, which is required for A-1 properties.

Bahr said the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the request at its June 11 meeting before sending it to the supervisors for approval on Tuesday.
