Traffic counts begin in Webster County

By Joe Sutter 2 min read

Traffic counts done once every four years are going on again in Webster County.

Devices will be set up along roads throughout the county to get accurate traffic data, Webster County Engineer Randy Will said Tuesday.

"The Iowa Department of Transportation does traffic counts on behalf of counties and cities," Will said. "They do a quarter of the state every four years."

The DOT worked with Will's office to find any places that might need a special count, or places that have gotten busy over the past four years, he said.

"It's important we get those numbers. Our road use tax funding is based on a formula, and one of the key items in that is the traffic count," Will said.

Due in part to its size and population, Webster County has the fourth busiest county roads in the state of Iowa, he said. That's not counting city or state roads.

Webster County has selected financial institutions for some of its investments.

Treasurer Brenda Angstrom said eight institutions responded to her requests for proposals, and the top two were selected for county investments.

For CDs, the top two rates were from First American Bank, 2.81%; and People's Credit Union, 2.73%.

For savings accounts, the top two rates were from Gowrie banks: Security Savings Bank, 2.51%; and Heartland Bank, 2.48%.
