Marco’s Pizza, located at 1511 Second Ave. N., is apparently closed. The business was locked on Monday and appeared to have been cleared out of inventory.

Marco’s Pizza, which had served authentic Italian pizza to Fort Dodgers for the past seven years, has abruptly closed.

The business, located at 1511 Second Ave. N., was locked and appeared to have been cleared out of inventory on Monday.

A call to Marco’s Pizza went straight to voicemail. The voicemail said, “We apologize, but our location is no longer open for business.”

A call placed to Marco’s corporate office in Toledo, Ohio, was not immediately returned.

The building Marco’s is located in is connected to Family Video.

When the pizza restaurant opened in 2012, Fort Dodge became the first Family Video location in Iowa to also feature a Marco’s Pizza outlet.

Through that partnership, customers were able to order a pizza and a movie at the same time and could have it delivered.

In addition to pizza, Marco’s also serves subs, salads, and desserts.

The company’s slogan is: “Every store. Every day. The Italian way.”

Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco, who moved to the U.S. from Italy when he was 9 years old, founded Marco’s Pizza.

Giammarco grew up working in his family’s pizzeria.

The company he subsequently established is committed to making authentic Italian pizza based on the lessons Giammarco learned from his family, according to the corporate website. The first Marco’s Pizza outlet opened in Toledo, Ohio, in 1978.

Marco’s Pizza has more than 800 franchised locations in 34 states, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and India.

Its Iowa locations include: Windsor Heights, Cedar Falls, Waukee, North Liberty, Waterloo, and Cedar Rapids.
