FD woman pleads guilty to federal meth charges

SIOUX CITY — A Fort Dodge woman has admitted to her role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy that lasted for nine months in 2018, according to prosecutors.

Chelsea K. Collins, 30, pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of distributing methamphetamine.

At the plea hearing, which was held in Sioux City, Collins admitted that she was involved in a meth conspiracy in the Fort Dodge area between January and September 2018.

According to the United States attorney’s office, Northern District of Iowa, Collins distributed methamphetamine.

Additionally, she aided others in the distribution of more than 35 grams of meth.

The drugs were distributed in four separate transactions in July 2018 and, the U.S. attorney’s office said, it was distributed to individuals that were cooperating with law enforcement.

Collins will be sentenced on a date that will be scheduled once a presentence investigation report is prepared.

She faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, and up to 40 years in prison.

Additionally, Collins also faces a $5 million fine as well as at least four years of supervised release following any prison sentence.

She will remain the custody of the United States Marshal until her sentencing, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

The case was investigated by the Fort Dodge Police Department; the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Webster County Sheriff’s Department, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
