Fitzgerald announced as Feelhaver principal

Sara Fitzgerald will become the next principal of Feelhaver Elementary School, the Fort Dodge Community School District announced Wednesday night.

Fitzgerald will begin her duties beginning with the the 2019-20 school year.

“Mrs. Fitzgerald has an exceptional knowledge of teaching and learning, along with a quiet, persistent passion for serving students and supporting teachers,” Dr. Jesse Ulrich, FDCSD Superintendent, said. “Combining her strong instructional leadership with the great staff that exist at Feelhaver will create an amazing educational experience for our kids.”

Fitzgerald currently serves as an instructional coach and new teacher mentor at Fort Dodge Middle School. In this role, she works directly with all teacher leaders, plans and delivers building specific and district level professional development for staff, provides behavioral and instructional coaching to individual teachers and groups and mentors new teachers. Prior to her current role, she taught sixth grade language arts at Fair Oaks Middle School and seventh grade reading at Fort Dodge Middle School. Fitzgerald has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Master of Arts in Teaching: Professional Educator. Her administrative certification is through the Iowa Principal Leadership Academy.

“I am honored to move into this position and have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of educators, families and students,” Fitzgerald stated. “I will strive to continue the sense of community and excellence Feelhaver has come to know and love. I look forward to building relationships and fostering a culture of leaders and learners. When our students leave Feelhaver Elementary, they will be confident in their abilities, knowing they have the skills needed to continue as successful scholars.”

Current principal, Nancy Cross, resigned effective at the end of this school year to move closer to family whom she will be helping care for.
