POCAHONTAS — Nationally-acclaimed Theodore Roosevelt impersonator Adam Lindquist will bring the past to life this President’s Day at the Rialto Theater.
The likeness of the 26th president will appear at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rialto, North Main Street in Pocahontas, in a program called “Theodore Roosevelt: Cowboy, Rough Rider, President.” A reception will follow featuring favorite foods of Roosevelt.
Admission is free. Donations will be accepted.
This is sponsored by the Pocahontas County Iowa Historical Society, as part of the Mary Jo Vainreb Lecture Series.
“We started it last year,” said society Vice President Ann Beneke. “Last year we did Ulysses Grant.

“We thought it was successful, the program and the reception following it. So we decided to continue doing this sort of thing if we could.”
The lecture series is named after a past president of the Pocahontas historical society, Mary Jo Vainreb, who passed away in February 2017 and left a sizable sum to the club.
“The amount we received in February 2018, was $25,871.95. That came just as we were beginning this program,” Beneke said. “So we decided to continue it.”
Lindquist has been in Pocahontas County before.
“I can tell he’s very good when I communicate with him,” Beneke said. “I’m excited about the program. I love our 26th president Theodore Roosevelt anyway.”
A native of Minnesota, Lindquist has won first place in national competition for his portrayal of Roosevelt in 2011, 2012 and 2013, according to the performer’s online biography. He began in 2007 after a photo taken in Des Moines showed his striking resemblance to the president.
Since then he has spoken in schools, conventions, board rooms and theaters.
” I have not looked back, enjoying an incredible journey as I recreate an amazing, multi-faceted man. I am lucky to be able to entertain, educate and engage thousands of people each year by ‘Being Teddy’,” Lindquist wrote. “Winning contests is not my goal in portraying Roosevelt. My real joy comes from helping my audience suspend belief; taking them back to a time in our country’s history where anything was possible with hard work and determination.”
The Pocahontas County Iowa Historical Society holds other events throughout the year, including the fall fest at Weigert Prairie. The society’s museum, in a former Carnegie library building in Laurens, is also very active, Beneke said.
