Foot Locker at Crossroads Mall to close

Company has been closing stores for years

Foot Locker, the specialty athletic retailer, is closing its longtime store at Crossroads Mall, a store employee confirmed.

The company, which specializes in athletic footwear and apparel, has had a presence at the mall since at least 1985, according to Messenger records.

At one time there were two Foot Locker stores in the mall. The two stores were located right next to each other.

One of those stores was at one time called Foot Locker and Athletic X-Press.

The current store has been in place since about 1998.

The last day for business at the Crossroads Mall store is Sunday, according to the store employee.

There will not be any additional specials or sales as a result of the closure, the employee said.

Any leftover inventory will be shipped to another store location.

Foot Locker closed more than 100 of its stores in 2018 and has done so every year for about the last decade, according to published news reports.

Its company headquarters are located in New York City.

On Thursday Foot Locker announced a $2 million investment in PENSOLE Inc., which operates the PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy.

“Together, Foot Locker, Inc., its vendor partners, and PENSOLE, will collaborate on new educational programs and the design and manufacturing of exclusive products for the Foot Locker, Inc. family of brands,” Tracy Royal, Foot Locker vice president of communications and events, said in a written statement.

Foot Locker operates more than 3,250 stores in 27 countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

In 2017, the company reported $7.7 billion in sales.
