Water valves, hydrants to be replaced in Humboldt

HUMBOLDT — Multiple water valves and fire hydrants will be replaced in Humboldt during the summer of 2019.

The Humboldt City Council awarded a contract for the work at its meeting Monday night.

Denver Underground and Grading, Inc., of Denver, Iowa, will replace five valves and four hydrants at a cost of $96,224.

Travis Goedken, city administrator, said the hydrants are currently out of service.

“The hydrants are sprinkled around town,” Goedken said. “The valves are concentrated in an area that has the biggest need.”

Goedken said the work will cause minimal disruptions when the water is shut off while contractors cut out and install new hydrants.

“Getting those new valves installed helps us make those isolations smaller in the future,” he said.

According to Goedken, the work should take about a month.

The project is anticipated for completion by June 1, 2019.
