The Fort Dodge man accused of killing two brothers in late October has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A written arraignment and pleas of not guilty were filed on behalf of Tanner King, 28, on Friday.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 22 shooting deaths of brothers Marion Rhodes, 37, and El Dominic Rhodes, 34, both of Fort Dodge.

He’s also charged with one count of attempted murder for allegedly shooting at Cletio Clark, 28, of Fort Dodge, during the same incident.

King’s trial date has been set for Jan. 15, 2019.

King allegedly shot and killed the Rhodes brothers during an argument with Clark shortly after midnight on Oct. 22.

According to criminal complaints, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, Clark and King were arguing in the alleyway behind an apartment building at 910 Second Ave. N., after King allegedly sold “bad” drugs to Clark’s girlfriend.

King lives in that building, according to the complaint.

At some point during the argument, Marion Rhodes approached Clark and King, the complaint stated, while El Dominic Rhodes pulled up in a vehicle and got out.

“At that time King pulls out a handgun and shoots El Dominic,” the complaint stated. “King then turns the gun on Marion and shoots him.”

It’s alleged that King then aimed towards Clark and fired a shot. Clark wasn’t hit, but his girlfriend’s car, which he was driving, was hit.

Clark drove off, while King ran away, the complaint stated.

King was arrested three days after the shooting.

He is being held on $2.1 million cash-only bonds in the Webster County Jail. Each of the murder charges carries a $1 million bond, while a $100,000 bond was set for the attempted murder charge.
