Charter flight to link FD, Nashville

Trip is planned for May 2019

A special charter flight will take people directly from Fort Dodge Regional Airport to the country music capital of Nashville, Tennessee, next May.

The flight will depart from Fort Dodge on May 20. Travelers will return to Fort Dodge on May 23.

“If this charter is successful, we hope to have more in the future,” Rhonda Chambers, the airport’s director of aviation, said Tuesday.

She said the flight will be a non-stop trip on a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 jet. Sun Country Airlines is no stranger to the local airport, because it provides the transportation for the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flights that take veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the nation’s war memorials.

Charter packages include the flight, a four-day and three-night stay at the Sheraton Music City Hotel, and transportation to and from the airport in Nashville. Packages range in price from $809 to $1,289 depending on how many people will be staying in the hotel room.

Attractions in Nashville include the Grand Ole Opry and other music venues.

“The airport has been working on getting destination charters for a long time,” Chambers said. “Nashville is a great city for our first charter and would not have been possible without Northland Travel.”

Northland Travel, of Fort Dodge, partnered with the airport on the charter project.

Chambers worked with airport leaders in Dubuque and Duluth, Minnesota, on the proposal. She said the jet that will take people from Fort Dodge to Nashville will pick up passengers from Duluth in Nashville and take them home.

Charter flights like the upcoming Nashville trip have been absent from the Fort Dodge airport since the 1990s when Casino Express periodically took people to Elko, Nevada.

A promotion is being offered that will enable two people to travel to Nashville for free. To be eligible, travelers must buy their ticket before Jan. 22 and use the promotional code NLT when booking.

For more information or to book tickets visit the airport’s Facebook page or website or call Angela at Northland Travel at 1-877-694-8687.
