Kidnapping, robbery suspect faces additional charges

New charges come from separate incident

A man already in the Webster County Jail on robbery and kidnapping charges is now facing an additional robbery charge in an unrelated incident.

Keaton R. Collins, 28, of Fort Dodge, is facing new charges of third-degree robbery and first-degree theft.

Criminal complaints, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, state that, on Oct. 17, around 8:30 p.m., a man was walking through an alley between South 13th Street and South 14th Street.

Collins, the complaint stated, allegedly ran out from behind a garbage bin and demanded the man give him his belongings.

The victim told officers that Collins hit him in the face and took a $20 bag of smoking tobacco the man was carrying.

The man was left with a small cut and welt on the left side of his face.

At his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday, Magistrate William Thatcher ordered cash-only bonds for Collins.

On the theft charge, Collins’ bond is $10,000, and on the robbery charge, it’s $2,000.

Thatcher also issued a no-contact order between Collins and the victim.

Collins was already being held in the jail for an alleged kidnapping and robbery that happened Sunday.

In that case, Collins is accused of assaulting a man in Fort Dodge and forcing him into a car and telling him to drive to another location.

His bond on the prior kidnapping and theft case is a combined $50,000.

Collins’ preliminary hearing on the new charges is Nov. 2, and for the previously-filed charges a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 31.
