Mediacom customers in Fort Dodge and surrounding area experienced prolonged outages with their internet and TV services Thursday and Friday, a customer representative at Mediacom confirmed.

“There is an outage,” she said. “They are working to get it fixed.”

The customer respresentative, who did not give her name, said the reason for the outage was a fiber line that had been damaged.

It’s not clear where that fiber line is located.

An estimated time of repair was not available during the day Friday.

Rob Strait, of Humboldt, is a Mediacom customer.

Strait said he lost connection to the internet Thursday afternoon.

The customer representative did not say how many customers were impacted, but said there were “a lot” in the area.

“It’s a quite a few,” she said.

Customers in Fort Dodge, Clarion, Belmond, Eagle Grove, and Humboldt, were areas impacted as of Friday afternoon.

Service to Strait’s home was restored sometime after 8 p.m. Friday night, he reported.
