Rockwell City man dies in crash at rural intersection in Calhoun County

One dead, two hurt when car, pickup collide

ROCKWELL CITY — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash late Monday afternoon at a rural intersection in Calhoun County.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that Marlin D. Bigelow, 63, of Rockwell City, was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he died.

The State Patrol also reported that Angie M. Bigelow, 61, and James B. Cole, 19, both of Rockwell City, were injured in the collision. They were taken to Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. Information on their conditions was not available Tuesday.

The crash happened at 4:33 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Langley Avenue and 320th Street, southwest of Rockwell City, according to the State Patrol. There are no stop signs at that intersection.

The State Patrol reported that Cole was northbound on Langely Avenue in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, while Marlin Bigelow was westbound on 320th Street in a 2009 Dodge pickup. In the intersection, Cole’s car hit the driver’s side of the pickup. Both vehicles ended up in the northwest corner of the intersection.
