One dead, 2 injured in collision south of Thor

UPDATE:

THOR – A 17-year-old girl is dead and two others are injured after a two-vehicle collision south of Thor Sunday night, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.

Olivia Bachman, of Whittemore, died at the scene, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 4:50 p.m.

According to the reports, Bachman was driving a Pontiac Torrent and traveling westbound on 270th Street.

Paul Doster, 64, of Algona, was driving a Toyota Highlander north on Utah Avenue. Susan Doster, 63, also of Algona, was a passenger in that vehicle.

According to the reports, Bachman failed to stop at the stop sign.

The Doster vehicle collided with the vehicle driven by Bachman in the middle of the intersection, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection.

Bachman was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Susan Doster was transported by Mercy Air Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Paul Doster was transported by Humboldt Ambulance to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Their lives were saved by wearing seatbelts, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

Utah Avenue from 250th Street to 270th Street was shut down for at least two hours while first responders were on scene.

The Iowa State Patrol, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, Humboldt Ambulance, Renwick Ambulance, Mercy Air Ambulance, and firefighters from Humboldt, Renwick, and Thor, assisted at the scene.

MidAmerican Energy Co. was also on scene.

INITIAL REPORT: One person has died and two others were injured after two SUVs collided just south of Thor Sunday night, according to Trooper Kevin Duenow, of the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 5 p.m.

According to Duenow, one of the vehicles was northbound on Utah Avenue. The other vehicle was westbound on 270th Street.

The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection before ending up in the northwest ditch, Duenow said.

One person died at the scene.

Two people were transported by ambulance with unknown injuries.

Names of the victims were not released Sunday night, pending notification of family.

Weather conditions at the time of the crash were not immediately known, although it had rained in the area off and on throughout the afternoon.

Utah Avenue from 250th Street to 270th Street was shut down for at least two hours while first responders were on scene.

The crash damaged MidAmerican Energy equipment located in the ditch.

As of about 8 p.m., 104 customers were without power in Vincent. An additional 54 customers were without power in Humboldt County.

According to information on MidAmerican’s website, power was restored by about 9 p.m.

The Iowa State Patrol, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, volunteer firefighters from Humboldt and Renwick, and MidAmerican Energy Co. were on scene.
