Man shot on porch in FD
‘I heard four shots: pop, pop, pop, pop. I wasn’t sure if it was on the TV at first’
A man said he was shot in the leg while sitting on the porch of a Fort Dodge house early Thursday afternoon, according to police.
The reported burst of gunfire sent police to the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue South just before 12:30 p.m.
The injured man was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center for treatment of what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The 49-year-old man was not identified by police.
No one else was injured.
No arrests were made as of Thursday night.
At 12:25 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a call from someone reporting gunshots were being fired at the house at 1502 Fourth Ave. S.
A next-door neighbor heard the shots.
“I heard four shots: pop, pop, pop,pop,” said Joel Holder. “I wasn’t sure if it was on the TV at first.”
Holder said he didn’t know the injured man.
As police were responding, officers received information that a group of people fled the area.
One report indicated that people connected to the incident went into the Yesway store at 1601 Fifth Ave. S. Officers checked the store, but didn’t find anyone matching the descriptions of people spotted at the shooting scene, according to police reports.
The police department reported that officers found evidence that the house at 1502 Fourth Ave. S. had been hit by gunfire.
While officers were working at the scene, a man walked up to them and said he had been shot while sitting on the front porch of 1502 Fourth Ave. S.
A woman ran up to him, yelling, “Are you all right? Did they hit you? I’m so sorry.”
The man appeared to have a minor injury on his knee. He was treated at the scene by Fort Dodge Fire Department paramedics and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The 1500 block of Fourth Avenue South was closed while police worked at the scene.
Webster County sheriff’s deputies assisted city police and firefighters.
