Jaycee Park to become city dog park in Eagle Grove
EAGLE GROVE — Community members in Eagle Grove hope to have a fenced-in park where they can take their furry friends for a walk sometime in the future.
The Eagle Grove City Council approved the establishment of a dog park at a meeting May 21. The council held a public hearing on the park at that time.
“It’s a go,” Bryce Davis, city administrator, said.
The park will be located in what is known as Jaycee Park at the corner of Southeastern Avenue and Southeast Third Street.
Jaycee Park was funded and built by the local Jaycees organization, according to information on the city of Eagle Grove’s website.
The next steps will be fundraising for the dog park. About $25,000 will be needed, Davis said.
Fencing, water fountains, and trash cans are likely to be added.
The Community Development Corporation gifted the park to the city.
The city then wanted to turn the park into “something useful for the community,” Davis said.
“The Parks and Recreation board wanted a different type of amenity than what we were offering to residents,” Davis said. “This gives an open space. It’s fenced in, it allows dogs to run.”
Davis said other parks in the city are not specifically for dogs.
A timeline has not been set on when the dog park will open.
