Man seriously hurt in April 13 crash ID’d

Gascho last reported in critical condition

Officials have identified the man who was left in critical condition after an early morning crash April 13.

Adam Gascho, 36, of Fort Dodge, was found unconscious, though he was breathing, after the truck he was riding in crashed into a tree near the intersection of South 22nd Street and Nine and a Half Avenue South, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Including Gascho, four people were riding in the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab pickup at the time of the crash, which was reported at 1:12 a.m.

Kyle Lawler, 22, of Fort Dodge, was the driver, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on South 22nd Street before the driver lost control.

The truck slid broadside into a tree on the west side of the roadway, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

It was totaled, with most of the damage on the middle driver’s side of the pickup.

Ryan Fishel, 38, of Fort Dodge, and Cody Ray, 21, of Fort Dodge, were the other passengers.

Lawler, Fishel and Ray reportedly got out of the truck under their own power.

Each were treated for minor injuries and released from UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center later Friday morning, Fort Dodge police reported.

Fort Dodge firefighters helped remove Gascho from inside the truck. Extrication tools were not used.

Gascho was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was last known to be in critical condition.

A condition report on Gascho was not available Tuesday.

The accident remains under investigation, but preliminary information indicates that alcohol may have contributed to the accident, police reported.

Fort Dodge police officers, along with the Fort Dodge firefighters and paramedics from UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center, responded.
