Man accused of stealing car, crashing into Family Dollar, held on bond

The man who allegedly stole a car and crashed it into the side of the Fort Dodge Family Dollar store has been ordered held on bond.

Reno R. Anderson, 26, of Fort Dodge, is charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor, as well as three traffic citations; leaving the scene of an accident, not having proof of insurance while being involved in an accident, and failure to maintain control.

According to criminal complaints, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, Anderson took a car from the 300 block of South 15th Street.

A short time later, it crashed into the side of Family Dollar, 21 S. 15th St.

The complaint said that Anderson, who told officers that another man was in the car with him, then got out of the car and ran a couple blocks away, where officers found him.

Anderson made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning, where he was ordered held on $2,000 bond by Magistrate William Thatcher.

Anderson’s preliminary hearing was set for March 16.
