Scott Krause, an Algona auto dealer, faces multiple felonies, including a charge of ongoing criminal conduct.
ALGONA — An Algona car dealer is facing multiple felony charges accusing him of overcharging for vehicles sold at his dealership.
Scott A. Krause, 56, of Algona, is charged with one count of ongoing criminal conduct, four counts of first-degree theft and three counts of second-degree theft.
According to the criminal complaint filed with the Kossuth County Clerk of Court, Krause, who owned and operated the McGregor & Dodge car dealership, “received money from customers to pay tax, title and license fees on vehicles purchased at his dealership.”
It’s further alleged that Krauser either did not pay the fees or overcharged his customers and did not issue a refund.
All the vehicles had liens held on them.
There are six separate incidents mentioned in the complaints:
• Aug. 19, 2016: Krause allegedly sold a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse knowing Security State Bank held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $16,300.26.
• Sept. 27, 2016: Krause allegedly sold a 2014 Ford Escape knowing Dyer Auto Auction held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $13,846.91.
• Jan. 4, 2017: Krause allegedly sold a 2013 Ford Escape knowing Dyer Auto Auction held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $9,705.56.
• Feb. 3, 2017: Krause allegedly sold a 2010 Dodge Journey knowing Dyer Auto Auction held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $5,290.92.
• Feb. 21, 2017: Krause allegedly sold a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT knowing Security State Bank held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $10,480.74.
• March 11, 2017: Krause allegedly sold a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer knowing Dyer Auto Auction held a lien on it. The pay off amount was $6,615.06.
The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that Krause has not been booked into the Kossuth County Jail yet.
According to Iowa Courts Online records, an initial appearance date has been set for Sept. 13.
The online records also indicated an attorney, John D. Brown, of Emmetsburg, filed an appearance on Krause’s behalf on Monday.
