FD council shows support for housing projects
The construction of some duplexes and the renovation of some vacant apartments in Fort Dodge may receive state tax credits.
During a special meeting Tuesday afternoon that lasted only a few minutes, the City Council endorsed applications for Workforce Housing Tax Credits being submitted to the Iowa Economic Development Authority by two developers.
One of those developers is JNM Investments, which is building five duplexes near the intersection of Williams Drive and 20th Avenue North. Three of the duplexes will face Williams Drive; the other two will face 20th Avenue North. Each unit will have 1,600 square feet of living space and a two-car garage. The City Council gave final approval to the construction of the duplexes on April 10.
The other developer is Black Hawk Apartment Associates LLC, which plans to renovate 25 vacant units in the Westridge Town Homes on Avenue M West.
Both applications were endorsed by the council on June 26, but had to be reconsidered after clerical errors were discovered.
The application for Black Hawk Apartment Associates LLC was endorsed unanimously.
Councilman Dave Flattery abstained from the otherwise unanimous vote on the JNM Investments application. He said he abstained because his employer, Availa Bank in Fort Dodge, is financing the project.
