$175K change order to improve sound at new Duncombe

An advanced sound system for the new Duncombe Elementary School was included in a change order approved by the Fort Dodge Community School District board Monday night.

The cost for the components and installation of the system is $132,280.

Announcements, music, and tornado drills will all run through the sound system, according to Travis Filloon, FDCSD director of building and grounds.

“We will now be able to direct that sound with a higher quality throughout the gymnasium and cafeteria,” he said.

The total amount for the change order is $175,276.

Increasing the thickness of concrete outside of the school, additional electrical boxes, and modifications to chain link fencing were the other items addressed in that change order.

A second change order was approved in the amount of $7,231. That covers the cost for moisture mitigation under the auxiliary gym flooring at Fort Dodge Senior High.

“For the installation of a moisture barrier, the concrete was taking an inordinate amount of time to cure,” Filloon said. “To help get that project going in a timeline that gets completed before school begins, this was necessary.”
