Duncombe grocery robbed by man with machete
DUNCOMBE – A man wielding a machete allegedly robbed Duncombe Gas & Grocery Thursday night, according to owners of the store, Michael Symens and Angelia Schultz.
No one was injured, according to Devin Collins, chief of police for Otho and Duncombe.
Symens and Schultz live above the store, located at 418 Main St., and were in their residence at the time of the robbery, the couple reported.
A woman was working the register when the robbery occurred at about 7 p.m.
The woman was in the store by herself at the time, Schultz said.
After the robber left the employee called Symens and Schultz on the phone.
Schultz said the woman screamed, “We just got robbed, we just got robbed, we just got robbed!”
Symens said the man stole money from the store.
“She did the right thing,” Symens said. “She stayed composed.”
It is unknown how much money the man took.
No other damage was reported at the store.
Collins was the first to arrive on scene after the suspect fled.
The suspect, believed to be a white man standing at six feet tall and about 200 pounds, was still at large as of Thursday night, according to Collins.
He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie with a green undershirt and black sweatpants, Collins said.
Webster County sheriff’s deputies and the Iowa State Patrol also responded.
The incident remains under investigation.
