Collins faces willful injury and assault charges
A man is facing two felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman inside his Fort Dodge apartment Tuesday afternoon.
Craig E. Collins, 50, of Fort Dodge, is charged with willful injury causing bodily injury and domestic assault, third or subsequent offense.
The alleged assault happened at Collins’ apartment, 1517 First Ave. N., No. 3.
Officers responded to the scene at 2:28 p.m. after receiving a request for a welfare check for a woman who was believed to be at the apartment, according to Roger Porter, assistant Fort Dodge police chief.
The welfare check was requested due to an investigation in Humboldt County, Porter said.
When officers arrived, they found the woman, who said she was beaten by Collins, according to the criminal complaint, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office.
The complaint stated that Collins hit and kicked the woman, causing severe bruising to her face.
In addition, the victim was also bleeding from her ear, according to the complaint.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center for further treatment of her injuries.
Collins was arrested and brought to the Webster County Jail, where his initial appearance was held Wednesday morning.
Magistrate William Thatcher ordered Collins held on $10,000 cash-only bond.
He also issued a no-contact order between Collins and the alleged victim.
Collins’ preliminary hearing is Oct. 28.
Porter added that more charges may be filed against Collins outside of Webster County, as he said the case originated in Humboldt County.
The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing its investigation, along with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
