Former officer bonds out after arrest
A former Fort Dodge police officer accused of pointing a gun at a woman has been released from jail after posting bond.
Tracy Roberts, 40, of Fort Dodge, has been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony.
At 6:30 a.m. Sunday Roberts allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend when she attempted to break up with him, according to the criminal complaint filed with the Webster County attorney’s office.
During the argument, Roberts allegedly dragged the woman into his bedroom and pointed a gun at her. At one point he allegedly fired a gunshot near the woman.
He then left the home at 2020 Sixth Ave. S. and allegedly fired the gun multiple times outside, according to the complaint.
Officers arrested Roberts after a search warrant was conducted at his home.
Roberts had posted bond prior to his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday morning.
Magistrate Steve Kersten issued a no-contact order between Roberts and the alleged victim.
His preliminary hearing is set for April 29.
Roberts was a patrol officer from 2005 to 2010. He was dismissed on Jan. 22, 2010, after then-Acting Police Chief Doug Utley accused him of covering up a felony, falsifying official reports, receiving stolen property and unlawful use of official information. His dismissal was upheld by the city’s Civil Service Commission.
Roberts then filed a lawsuit against the city.
In November 2011, the City Council approved a payment of $25,000 to settle the case out of court.
