Closing the purchase of a home can be a confusing process loaded with a mind boggling array of documents.
There is a Fort Dodge business dedicated to helping ease that procedure for buyers and sellers.
That firm, Snell Settlement Services, has been in business since 2002 and now has a new owner.
Ricki Osborn Stubbs purchased the business and took it over on Sept. 1.
The transition was marked with an open house Wednesday in the business's office at 706 First Ave. N.
"We're here to help everyone who's buying or selling a home to make it easier for them," Osborn Stubbs said. "We're here for them just to help that process."
She said the staff of Snell Settlement Services will sit down with clients, go through all the documents and make sure the money goes where it is supposed to.
She said most banks now use a settlement company for real estate deals.
The firm serves Webster and Hamilton counties and has worked with clients as far away as Sac and Palo Alto counties.
The firm employs four people.
The company was started by Fort Dodge attorney Kurt Pittner. When he retired, it was owned by the Crimmins & Kehm Law Firm. But when Mark Crimmins died and Ryan Kehm was appointed to be a district court judge, new ownership was needed. That's when Osborn Stubbs bought the business.
