UnityPoint to outsource some IT work
Move will eliminate 207 jobs
UnityPoint Health plans to transfer some of its information technology work to an outside contractor later this year in a move that will eliminate 207 jobs.
It also plans a similar transition for what it calls its “revenue cycle” functions. Details of that process are being worked out.
“Like many health systems across the country, we are navigating a period of sustained financial pressure that requires us to make difficult but necessary decisions,” Scott Kizer, the president and chief executive officer of UnityPoint Health, said in a written statement.
“Our focus is to ensure we remain strong for the future so we can continue delivering expert, high quality care and expand local access for patients and communities who depend on us,” he added.
In an announcement, UnityPoint Health listed rising costs, reductions in reimbursement and increased demand for complex care services as the financial pressures at the root of the move to outside contractors.
The organization stated that the specific information technology and revenue cycle functions were selected for the transition in order to minimize the impact on direct patient care, leverage technology advancement and improve the overall user experience.
The employees affected by the transition will be provided with severance pay, continuation of benefits and career support, according to UnityPoint Health.
“These decisions are incredibly difficult because they affect valued members of our team who have contributed meaningfully to our mission,” Kizer said. “We are committed to supporting our team members while positioning our organization to continue serving our communities for years to come.”
