When it came time to establish themselves as new business owners on the block, there was no place like home for the Daniel triplets of Fort Dodge.

Sam, Thomas and James Daniel are climbing the ladder – both literally and figuratively — with their new business, Daniel Gutters and Foundation Services of Fort Dodge. Opening late last summer, the brothers focus on seamless gutters, downspouts, fascia and soffit work, leaf protection systems, and even foundation repair for both commercial and residential accounts.

“We treat customers’ homes as if they were our own, from tear off to installing and cleaning up,” Sam said. “We keep the job site clean and well-organized.

“We chose Fort Dodge because this town shaped us into the men we are now,” he added. “It’s our time to make a difference and give back to the community – especially for what it’s given to us.”

The Daniels — who graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 2021 — first joined an established company in Iowa City a few years ago and learned the tools of the trade, specializing in gutters, waterproofing and concrete cutting. Sam and Thomas both worked their way up to foreman positions on their respective gutter crews, while James did the same on the foundation side.

“Tom and Sam were both working gutters and I had a job at the time fixing cars. I wanted to join them, so I applied for a gutter position,” James said. “They had an opening in waterproofing and foundation repair instead, fixing bowing in walls, waterproofing basements and raising sunken houses.

“We felt like the three of us together could accomplish a lot with the knowledge and success we’d gained in both (areas of waterproofing expertise). There’s no one I’d rather work alongside than my two closest friends: my brothers.”

Thomas saw an immediate responsibility in the profession that extended beyond just general home maintenance and aesthetics.

“I think it’s giving the customers we work for security when bad weather hits,” Thomas said. “Water can do a lot of damage to homes, and we want homeowners to have peace of mind when storms do occur. I know from experience we use the best material we can get our hands on, plus we were taught by professionals in the Iowa City area with 30-plus years of experience in the industry.”

“We come from a family with a strong work ethic and a pride in serving the community. We wanted to help the people in the Fort Dodge area who helped us when we were growing up.”

Sam added that Daniel Gutters and Foundation Services offers “the strongest gauge of aluminum for our gutters and downspouts.”

“We have a top-notch gutter machine that can roll out either 5- or 6-inch gutters, depending on what the house needs,” Sam said. “We specialize in hand-cutting our corners to ensure they are strong, durable, and look sharp. And we keep the job site clean and well-organized.”

The Daniel brothers have learned that attention to detail is just as important both before and after the project.

“It’s not just the job itself,” Sam said. “From quoting, managing inventory, staying organized and developing good relationships with our customers, we concentrate on providing them with the best care possible.”

James added, “we have a lot of people behind the scenes that have helped guide us through everything.”

Their father is Jeff Daniel, manager of Daniel Tire in Fort Dodge. Jeff’s dad, Steve, is the fourth-generation owner of the downtown tire business, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

“Fort Dodge has served our family well, obviously, and we want to give back,” Thomas said. “We want to add value and curb appeal to the community, but also, that assurance that our product will hold.

“We try to represent ourselves well by taking care of all the little details. If you choose us over the competition, that means a great deal to us. We’re growing into a fluid machine and we divide and conquer our tasks between the three of us. Communication is key; we want everyone to be on the same page so that we not just meet, but exceed our expectations.”
