Construction work much like what is seen here will soon be a common sight again at District 29 in Fort Dodge. An earlier phase of construction is shown here. Talon Development, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, plans to begin building more townhomes south of the existing buildings.

The expansion of an apartment and townhome neighborhood on the east side of Fort Dodge has received $1 million worth of tax credits from the state.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced the award of workforce housing tax credits Thursday. Five area projects received awards.

The expansion of District 29 near Dodger Drive and North 29th Street received one of the largest awards.

Construction of District 29 began in 2020, and the first phase was completed a year later. A second phase of construction started in 2022.

Last spring, Talon Development, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, announced plans for 18 more townhome structures to be located south of the current buildings.

The first phase of that expansion will consist of nine buildings, each containing six townhomes.

Each townhome will have three bedrooms and a two-car garage.

Construction of those townhomes could begin yet this year.

Another new housing complex, located on the northwest side of Fort Dodge, also received workforce housing tax credits.

Hoppe Development, of Lincoln, Nebraska, plans 65 new apartments along Third Avenue Northwest.

That project was awarded $874,440 in tax credits.

Construction of those apartments is expected to begin next spring.

Tax credits were awarded to projects in these area communities as well:

• Eagle Grove, Torkelson Properties LLC, eight units, $260,998 in tax credits

• Webster City, HQ Homes LLC, 33 units, $1 million in tax credits

• Webster City, Wright Capital LLC, two units, $66,624 in tax credits.

Starting at $4.94/week.
