Woodruff Construction to acquire Spencer company

Deal will add company’s fifth region

Woodruff Construction, of Fort Dodge, has agreed to acquire the assets of Midstates Builders Inc. of Spencer.

The business opportunity fits into Woodruff’s plan to further expand into the northwest portion of the state and will create its fifth region.

Scheduled for Oct. 3, Midstates Builders Inc. assets and current employees will be merged as part of Woodruff Construction.

Craig Wampler, co-owner of Midstates Builders, joined the company as the operations manager in April 2003, having brought nearly 20 years of commercial construction experience to the company. He became vice president in May 2005. He and his wife, Kirsten, purchased the company from the previous owner in August 2007.

For the past 15 years, Midstates Builders has been part of the Spencer community. It has supported numerous non-profit organizations with time and money.

Woodruff Construction plans to continue to foster relationships with the architects, subcontractors, vendors and local organizations in the Spencer area while supporting the surrounding communities.

Due to significant health concerns diagnosed earlier this year, several confidential inquiries were made with the objective of aligning Midstates Builders with an organization demonstrating similiar business practices as well as values supporting their staff and the communities they serve. Woodruff Construction checked every box.

Since its start in 1956, Woodruff Construction has been growing and building on its tradition of hard work and exceptional construction and became 100 percent employee-owned in late 2020. Woodruff Construction maintains four additional offices across Iowa: Fort Dodge, Ames, Iowa City and Waterloo.
