AMES — Nick and Natalie Nordstrom were recently honored for their work at The Quarters at Ames, a resort-style housing community.

Both are St. Edmond High School graduates, Nick earned the “Leasing Manager of the Year” award from The Tailwind Corporation, which owns The Quarters and multiple units in 13 states. Natalie was named the “Community Assistant of the Year.”

Nick was given his award in September, but was the one to deliver the news to Natalie when she received her honor.

“I didn’t believe him at first,” Natalie said. “I was told I got the award because I always strive to make sure every resident has a positive experience.”

Both gave credit to their mother, Sue Nordstrom, for instilling them with the core values needed to succeed in their positions.

“The real MVP is our mom,” Nick said. “She taught us how to work hard and hold ourselves to a high standard. She taught us everything we know about organization and putting your all into a task, so really, both of these awards are a reflection of her parenting and we are both endlessly thankful for that.”

Nick Nordstrom joined The Quarters in 2018 in a part-time role before taking a full-time maintenance position after returning from COVID. Almost two years after he first was hired, he was named Leasing Manager.

“It allows me to know all sorts of people, compete against other properties in Ames and participate in all sorts of fun events,” he said. “I love going home at the end of the day knowing I did my best to provide the best housing experience possible to our residents.”

Under Nick’s leadership, The Quarters reached 100 percent capacity for the first time and has the highest online reputation for a student housing complex in the state of Iowa, ranking 18th in the nation.

“I use the award to remind myself that hard work pays off,” he said. “And to remind me that we have a higher standard to hold ourselves to.”

Natalie Nordstrom joined her brother in December 2020 in the role of Community Assistant. She added the duties of a property manager last July as a way to ‘step up and be a leader.’

“My favorite part is the residents,” she said. “They are so fun and I love getting to know them. I try my best to get all of their names down so I can always greet them with a smile.”

Nick Nordstrom is engaged to get married next spring and plans to continue working at The Quarters. Natalie Nordstrom is a senior at Iowa State studying Elementary Education who will graduate in December. She also substitute teaches in Ames.

The Quarters community offers several amenities that you would find at a high-end hotel or resort including a pool, fitness center, tanning beds, study areas, social events and more.
