Mother and daughter business owners are teaming up to not only combine their stores, but also host a final monthly run/walk for the year at their new store downtown.

Fit This and Xessorize! recently decided to combine their stores.

Jill Bush, who owned Xessorize!, and her daughter, Amanda Bush, who owned Fit This, have joined forces and renamed their shops Rush Hour Clothing Co., located at 1208 First Ave. S.

“We are a boutique that specializes in trendy women’s clothing and accessories,” Amanda Bush said.

The store’s grand opening will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We will have some foods and drinks provided, along with a free koozie given away with any purchase,” Amanda Bush said.

The following week will be the free monthly walk/run event for all ages and abilities. Participants can run, walk, push a stroller or even bring their dog to walk. They will have the option to go the whole 3.5 miles or turn around at any point and head back to the store.

The former Fit This store has been holding the monthly run/walk since July.

For the path, participants will head down Central Avenue, past the Fort Dodge Public Library and past Real Deals on Home Decor.

From there, the path continues past the railroad tracks down the hill, which ends at the intersection of Central Avenue and Meriwether Drive.

The path then continues on a trail that wraps around the former Sunkissed Meadows golf course, which is now a disc golf course. The walk goes along the Des Moines River, then wraps back around in a large circle.

Participants then come back the same route they traveled down, ending up back at the store.

There will be mile markers placed along the route so people know how far they have gone.

Besides the run/walk, there are also a number of community sponsors who will be providing some of the door prizes, which will be given away at the end of the event at 11 a.m.

“After the walk, the Dariette will be giving out ice cream and Fareway will be providing bananas,” Bush said. “Club Fitness will also give a prize away and we will also be giving out a few gift cards to our new shop.”

The last walk/run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the run/walk begins at 10 a.m.
