McClure, JFSCO merge

McClure Engineering Company has announced it will merge with JFSCO Engineering of Red Oak.

The Clive-based company said the merger is an opportunity to add rail design and terminal transloading facility design work to its services, and expand its survey scanning and aviation expertise.

The Fort Dodge office won’t see any direct impact from the merger, except perhaps an improvement of services, said Derick Anderson, Fort Dodge regional manager for McClure Engineering.

“Ultimately this will have little or no impact on the Fort Dodge office, per se,” Anderson said. “If there is any, it is in our ability to provide those services better in the long term.”

Two specialties of JFSCO are 3D scanning and rail design, Anderson said.

McClure bought a laser scanner earlier this year that can analyze objects like a bridge, roadway, or piece of equipment in minutes.

“It will take all the detail off the bridge without having to survey all those points,” Anderson said. “Depending on the settings it can take 300,000 to 1 million points per second.”

JFSCO has had such a scanner for five years, and McClure was previously working with them to build up McClure’s experience with it, said Anderson.

“The relationship kind of nurtured from there,” he said.

JFSCO also is known for its work on railroad infrastructure.

“JFSCO Engineering is well-known in the industry for its rail design and oil and frac sand transloading facility design work,” said Terry Lutz, president and CEO of McClure Engineering Co. “We’re excited to bring this new area of expertise within our company, along with the added 3D scanning capabilities and geographic footprint. They hold similar core values that make this an ideal match for us.”

In addition to McClure’s major role in bringing water and sewer to Iowa’s Crossroads of Global Innovation, the large ag park west of Fort Dodge, the company also has done rail design there for a proposed rail spur which would give future industries there access to two railroads.

As part of this merger, McClure retains the leadership role between the two companies. All employees will be retained. The firms will be actively engaged in integrating client relationships with the McClure team. The Red Oak offices of JFSCO will remain intact to provide seamless service to clients.

“This merger provides our clients with a broader range of services and additional expertise,” said C. Peter Crawford, owner and vice president, JFSCO Engineering Co. “It also provides our employees with professional growth opportunities additional resources and a transition for the future.”

The merger is anticipated to be complete in the first part of 2016. Upon completion of the merger, JFSCO Engineering will operate under the name McClure JFSCO Engineering Company. Financial terms of the merger are confidential.

Some of McClure’s other major projects in the Fort Dodge area include the Crosstown Connector Park being built on the east side of town, near Decker Truck Line Inc.; a new sewer line for the regional landfill south of Fort Dodge; and rehabilitation of the Fort Dodge Regional Airport’s runway.
