Getting ready for the horse games at the Webster County Fair, Joelle Lizer, then 16, takes a minute for a drink of water. The games competition, including pole bending and barrell racing, started an hour early because of the expected heat. Joel Lizer, of Gowrie, holds Bubbles, his daughter’s horse, as he hands Joelle the water bottle. Because they were playing games, the 4-H’ers decorated their horses, and Bubbles got a mane full of glitter and painted bubbles on her rear.
