Ninety percent of people who die by suicide suffer from a mental illness, that often goes undiagnosed, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Groups in Fort Dodge are working to raise awareness of suicidal symptoms and resources to help. At the time of the article offering resources to combat suicide, 12 people in the Fort Dodge area had died by suicide in the previous two years. Currently, the 988 Lifeline offers assistance for people facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or just need someone to talk to, It’s available by dialing 988, or going to 988lifeline.org.
