For Diane Brautigan, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, there’s a simple reason she was part of the thousands of people in Algona taking the annual RAGBRAI trip across central Iowa. “It’s a bike ride,” she said. Both Brautigan and her husband, Art, who wasn’t with her on the ride, have gone on bike tours in other countries, which she called more laid-back and offering more of a look at the cultures of those countries.
