Voters in Fermathe, Haiti, line up early in the morning in front of campaign posters for some of the more than 30 presidential candidates. Voters started lining up in the small village, about 45 minutes from the capital of Port-au-Prince, before dawn for their chance to vote. The photo was taken by Renee Dietrich, who worked for The Messenger as its chief photographer from November 1997 to September 2002. She had been living in Haiti since then and working for St. Joseph’s Family, an organization of three children’s homes founded by Algona native Michael Geilenfeld.
