The Fort Dodge Hydroelectric Dam was at the center of a referendum to upgrade and update the facility, allowing Fort Dodge to again generate electricity from the Des Moines River. After the referendum passed, a study proved that the $7 million project was unfeasible. Most of the structure has been removed.
