A painting by then Fort Dodge Senior High art instructor Richard J. Hanson won the 2004 National Watercolor Society Purchase Award. Titled “Home Sweet Home,” the painting of a homeless man sleeping in a car was published in the February edition of “Watercolor Magic,” a nationally circulated publication. The painting accompanied the Accent column by then editor Walt Stevens. Hanson is still creating art.
