NEWS: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department recovered a John Deere Gator from a quarry south of Rutland. The Gator was believed to have been stolen two years prior from the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
SPORTS: The girls state softball tournament returned to Fort Dodge with 32 teams participating and 20,000 fans anticipated.
25 Years ago: July 20, 1994
NEWS: An undetermined amount of money was stolen and a shot fired into the ceiling, but no one was hurt, during a robbery at First American Bank.
SPORTS: Heather Casey picked up her 97th career win as Rockwell City-Lytton downed Southern Cal, 3-1, in a Class 1A district final.
50 Years ago: July 20, 1969
NEWS: Messengerland residents sat entranced for hours before their television sets to watch the historic first steps of man on the moon. “Footprints on the moon — the incredible has happened,” said Rev. Ben Hearn, pastor of First Congregational Church and president of the Ministerial Association.
SPORTS: The Fort Dodge Merchants swept a Central Iowa League double-header from the Kellogg Merchants, 6-1 and 7-0.
