NEWS: Twin Lakes Masonic Lodge No. 478 and the Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. and A.M. made Christmas brighter for about 50 kids in Calhoun County.

NEWS: Charlie Chase joined the sales department of Shimkat Motor Co.

SPORTS: Fort Dodge won its fourth Eagle Grove invitational wrestling meet.

50 Years ago: Dec. 5, 1968

NEWS: James Robert Burke, 68, joined the school safety patrol in Fort Dodge — the first adult to do so in the patrol’s history. He was assigned to the intersection of Second Avenue South and Fourth Street.

SPORTS: Eleven students from the Webster City campus of Iowa Central dribbled basketballs down the highway from Webster City to Emmetsburg — about 80 miles — to support the Webster City Junior College team that was playing Emmetsburg that night.
