What Seniors Are Saying — In step with Colby Doebel

1. What programs and activities do you participate in?

I run cross country, am researching props in the fall play, and working to obtain my para certification by working with teachers in the school.

2. What academic accomplishment are you most proud of?

I, more than anything, love that I can live up to the expectations I set for myself and work to always get better.

3. What’s your best piece of advice for younger students?

You need to meditate. I don’t mean sit on the ground and pray per say. You just need something that lets you turn your brain off, whether it be a book or a good video game, it does wonders.

4. What is your go-to song or artist?

Right now I really like the band Vampire Weekend and their song “A-Punk.”

5. What is your favorite class or subject and why?

I really love writing classes because they always help me to be creative and really get into subjects that I’m passionate about.

6. What is your favorite movie?

I love “Pan’s Labyrinth” because of its creative effects, but “Whiplash” will always be my favorite movie because of its incredible characters.

7. If you could have dinner with someone famous, who would it be and why?

Now I’ve been asked this question a lot and I always wanted to have dinner with Carl Segan. I love how he connects philosophy with his research of astronomy. I could listen to him talk for hours.

8. What are you working hardest on right now?

I have a small business where I buy broken Gameboys, fix them up, then sell them. It’s been an expensive and difficult endeavor, but I really do enjoy it.

9. Who is your role model in life?

I wouldn’t say there is a single person I look up to, rather the ideas of many kinds of people. At the end of the day I want to be authentically me, which means I will see what I like in others and work to be more like that. I can’t think of a single person that I aspire to be however.

10. What is your favorite memory from your time in Fort Dodge schools?

The small moments that I won’t remember like the hundreds of jokes I’ve heard or the multiple tests that I’ve passed. I can’t tell you when or for what, but it was a super positive experience. Not one that I want to have again, but still.
