FDSH secures 21 Division I Ratings at state contest

Fort Dodge Senior High students prepared 27 entries for the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual Speech Contest held March 13. These students qualified for State by receiving Division I ratings at the District level competition last month. Twenty-one Fort Dodge Senior High performers received Division I ratings at State:

• Josh Meier — Acting — “A Know-It-All in the Park”

• Valeria Cezares — Improvisation

• Malaney Butrick — Literary Program — “Teen Angst”

• Sawyer Springer — Original Oratory — “Embrace Life”

• Isabel Beekman — Public Address — “Every Child Deserves a Champion”

• Britta McCollum — Poetry — “Family Reunion”

• Destiny Farhat — Poetry — “I See”

• Isabel Beekman — Poetry — “Surviving”

• Josh Meier — Prose — “When Breath Becomes Air”

• Moira Buie — Prose — “Stone Butch Blues”

• Grace Casciato — Radio News

• Moira Buie — Reviewing — “Nailed It”

• Amelia Rake — Spontaneous Speaking

• Joey Kelley — Solo Musical Theater — “Why God Why?”

• Maddie Vinchattle — Solo Musical Theater — “Pretty Funny”

• Reagan Black — Solo Musical Theater — “The Song That No One Liked”

• Michael Wagner — Solo Musical Theater — “Good-Bye”

“Our team had another fabulous day,” Lindey Krug, FDSH speech coach, said. “They put a tremendous amount of time and energy into preparing for State, and based on our results it was well worth it. I’m proud of the entire team and their efforts this season.”
